To Chip or Not to Chip What are your thoughts?
Would you microchip your dog? Why did you or why didn't you?
So, I help run a dog rescue. And this topic comes up a lot. I've been in rescue for almost 2 years now and prior to that, I volunteered for the local humane society. BUT since I've been in rescue, we've never reunited an owner with their dog via a microchip. While we do microchip all of our dogs that come into our rescue, here are a couple items I want to discuss regarding microchips:1. There hasn't been really any studies of the long term effects of microchipping......except for a series of veterinary and toxicology studies, dating to the mid-1990s. The scientists stated that the microchips "induced" malignant tumors in some lab mice and rats. 2. I've also heard that the microchip can "migrate" that is move from between the shoulder blades. That's creepy.3. Not all readers can scan different chips. which is alarming as a dog may be chipped, but the shelter's reader does not read it!
